Coleen King of Nocona passed from this life April 25, 2026, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mary Coleen (Brookmole) was born August 17, 1945 in Nocona to Felix and Frances Brookmole. Coleen grew up on the family farm. In adulthood, she took over the farm and continued to raise some of the highest quality hay around. Her hay won numerous awards. Her farm enabled her to employ generations of young men raising, cutting, and hauling hay.
Coleen had a strong, independent spirit. As the matriarch of her family, she led with a firm hand and clear expectations, instilling discipline and tradition in the ways things were done—including, notably, how food was cooked and homes were tended. Thanksgiving cooking was her domain; though she might complain throughout the process, she insisted on overseeing every detail so she could make sure everything was just right.
Coleen grew up in a conservative time, and she maintained conservative values throughout her life. She was a woman of profound faith, and she was a lifelong, faithful member of the Nocona Church of Christ. Her devotion to her beliefs was steady and resolute; once she formed an opinion, she held to it with tenacity and clarity. Coleen was sure of how to live, and she would share how to live faithfully, “speaking the truth in love.”
When it came to pets, Coleen could be both perplexed and compassionate. Nearly all her dogs were strays she rescued, and she always made sure to keep two at a time so they wouldn’t be lonely. But they drove her nuts, too!. She raised Siamese cats, which she simultaneously enjoyed and became annoyed at. Coleen also enjoyed a well-kept lawn and took delight in bird watching—often buying significant quantities of bird seed despite the persistent challenge of squirrels. She even bought deer corn to fill the squirrels up so they would leave her birds’ dinner alone.
Coleen’s interests were broad and enriching. She was proud of her family heritage in farming and in faith. She loved her daughters, and she raised them to be women of devotion, conscience, and integrity. She cherished her relationship with her grandchildren, and they were blessed to grow up next door to her and “Pappy” (Larry). In her free time, Coleen loved shopping and home decorating. She pursued excellence in cooking and baking. She also loved movies and Star Trek.
Coleen is survived by her daughter Candace Molsbee and husband Richard of Nocona; grandchildren Adam Priddy and his wife Trinity of Plano, and Linzie Priddy of College Station; sons-in-law Aubrey Eudy and Jeff Priddy; and numerous cousins.
Coleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Larry King, who passed away in 2020; her daughter Cristi Eudy who preceded her in death by only a few weeks; and her parents, Felix and Frances Brookmole.
A graveside service to honor Coleen’s life will be held on May 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Nocona Cemetery, located at 1605 West Pine Street, Nocona, with Austin Wright officiating, and under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home. Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather and celebrate the enduring legacy of a woman whose life was marked by steadfast leadership, unyielding devotion, and compassionate grace. Coleen King leaves behind a profound imprint on all who knew her, a testament to a life lived with purpose, love, and strength. For those who would like to donate in memory of Coleen, please consider the Nocona Church of Christ youth group.
