Judith Sue Van Meter

July 27, 1939 - August 15, 2026

Judith Sue Van Meter, 87, of Bowie, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away surrounded by the love of her family.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Marge Mertz; her son, David Van Meter; and her granddaughter, Annie Duarte.

Judith was the beloved wife of Richard Van Meter, with whom she shared 43 years of marriage. She was a devoted mother to Christine Gatewood, Jennifer Diaz, Lisa Crowe, Lorie Carter and her husband Kenneth, Todd Gatewood and his wife Kristina, Chris Van Meter and his wife Kim, and Rick Can Meter and his wife Lisa.

She was a cherished grandmother to 15 grandchildren, a proud great-grandmother to 7 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandmother to one great-great-grandson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Judith is survived by her sister, Wendy and her husband LeRoy; and her brothers, Ralph and his wife Heidi, and Jerry.

For many years, Judith worked at ARC, where her caring nature and generosity touched the lives of those around her. But her greatest legacy was the love she gave to her family and everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Judith was caring, loving, and generous. She was the rock of her family -- the person others could count on, the heart that held everyone together, and a steady source of strength and love. Her kindness, warmth, and unconditional love will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love that will continue through the generations she cherished so dearly.

Judith's family will celebrate her life at a later date.
